âGo with the kids, when the smoke clears, Iâll come get you,â Cire instructed and Adama stared at her like she was speaking a foreign language. Like sheâd lost her mind and he had no problem helping her find it.
âIâm not ten no more Cire. Iâm not the babysitter no more. I been putting in work. I look young, but you ainât that older than me sis.â Adama explained to Cire, she absorbed his words. Because he was right, she wanted to protect him like sheâd been doing her entire life. Cire had left a little brother behind and came home to a little big brother. Itâs been twenty-five years. She thought to herself.
âWell tell Mo to lock down the sunroom and keep the kids in the panic room, then meet me in the foyer,â Cire instructed. Adama nodded opening the attic door. They headed down the stairs then in opposite directions. The gunfire was slowing down and Cire had to make sure her son was the last one standing. She rushed to the front door opening it. Cireâs heart danced with joy as the clouded smoke hid the pandemonium behind him. Cre removed the gas mask giving Cire a small smirk.
âI came back for you.â He admitted, and his admission was like daggers to Cireâs heart. It was like lightning had sparked behind her chest and her eyes instantly glossed up. Her baby boy had come for her. Something she had failed miserably at in return. She pulled him into a hug wrapping her arms around him and Cre hesitated before he embraced her back. This was it. He was gonna end all the bloodshed and from there they would figure out how to move forward. Kalou was a dead man and Cre was only three hundred and fifty feet away from him. âWhereâs Kalou?â He asked and before he could answer his gun was aimed at Adama who stood at the top of the balcony.
âYou killed my mother and father,â Cre said through gritted teeth, and Cireâs heart sank. Cre was a fireball and wasnât no telling what he was going to do.
âYour mother standing right there. I killed your father, but I saved your girl and kid. Now you tryna get at Kalou or what?â Adama answered unflinchingly. He was a quick draw and if he thought Cre was going to pull his trigger on him, he wouldâve pulled his first.
Cire placed her hand over Creâs hand placing it down. Her other hand cupped under his chin turning his head towards her. Forcing him to look at her. Creâs rage turned him disrespectful, and disrespect wasnât allowed in the family. It was the one thing Kalou had instilled in them. Sometimes the line between respect and fear was a little blurred. But a gun aimed at someone that was helping you win was unacceptable.
âYour beef ainât with my brother. That ainât never happening. We seconds away from the core of the problem. Tighten up.â
Cre had no objections. He would deal with Adama later.
